Travel Planning In 2021

Here are three things you need to know about consumer travel intentions in 2021:

Mapping Out Plans

  • 45% have some ideas, doing research
  • 27% haven’t thought about it yet
  • 18% have planned where I’m going, but not yet booked
  • 10% have booked one or more trips already

For the majority of consumers, the research process itself will be more scrupulous than ever. Travelers say they will…

  • 65% spend more time choosing a destination this year
  • 64% spend more time reading reviews

Flexibility and Hygiene

What kinds of changes do consumers want to see from the travel brands they choose? Flexibility and proof of hygiene/cleanliness are the themes that continue to rise to the top.

  • 55% let me cancel/rearrange trips easily
  • 52% provide flexible booking policies
  • 51% offer discounts
  • 44% show proof of hygiene procedures
  • 34% contactless/touchless options
  • 24% strong insurance policies

Types of Trips

In spite of the excitement around travel, most consumers aren’t quite ready to go abroad. In 2021, the long weekend and road trips reign supreme. What other trips will consumers take?

  • 35% road trip
  • 26% beach/lake trip
