Inspira Drives Festivalgoer Engagement and 1 Billion+ Earned Media Impressions at Lollapalooza

As one of the original dairy-free pioneers, So Delicious Dairy Free (SDDF) has been pushing plant-based boundaries since 1987. With a portfolio spanning dairy-free ice cream, yogurt, beverages, and creamers made from coconut, cashew, almond, and soy, the brand has long been synonymous with indulgent flavor and conscious living—proving loyal customer retention with a repeat purchase rate well over 50%.

However, with post-COVID shifts in at-home consumption, increased category saturation, and the rise of traditional dairy brands entering the non-dairy space, the brand needed to reassert its relevance, modernize its presence, and reignite emotional connection with consumers to maintain market dominance. Recognizing these headwinds, Danone invested in a major brand revitalization for So Delicious, launching a new visual identity including logo, packaging, and messaging framework to drive awareness and salience among new and lapsed consumers, while also reminding existing fans what makes So Delicious stand apart.

The key objective of our work was to shift perceptions. While consumers often view dairy-free ice cream as a “better-for-you” alternative, ice cream as a category is rooted in joy, indulgence, and playfulness. And to reclaim its space in the hearts (and freezers) of consumers, So Delicious needed to show consumers that giving up dairy doesn’t mean giving up fun. This campaign needed to focus on connecting with Zillennials, a core audience driven by experience, self-expression, and authenticity, by engaging them with an emotionally resonant, immersive experience that would blend taste, design, and cultural relevance.

In partnership with Inspira, So Delicious set out to translate its refreshed identity into a tangible, sensorial experience—one that would celebrate the brand’s new look, spark conversation, and inspire long-term brand affinity.

Building on the brand’s revitalized look, So Delicious sought to redefine dairy-free indulgence with “Dairy Free Your Mind™.” Recognizing that one in three Americans are sensitive to dairy, the campaign aimed to connect with both core consumers and growth “flexitarians,” while inviting Zillennials into a world of next-level flavor, unbelievable texture, and mind-blowing ingredients. With research confirming 40% of Gen Z actively seek milk alternatives and over half have tried a plant-based approach this year, the activation was designed to spark trial, create discovery, and build lasting brand affinity by engaging Zillennials emotionally and sensorially, while inspiring curiosity and connection.

Recognizing that So Delicious’ frozen desserts presented the biggest opportunity as a “gateway” product to acquire new consumers, Inspira introduced “The Pint of No Return”—an immersive, multi-sensory journey at Lollapalooza. To ignite anticipation ahead of the festival though, in collaboration with Kroger and Southern Made, the campaign launched six weeks prior with a national retail activation and QR code sweepstakes, where consumers could discover their perfect flavor and earn entries to win a VIP festival trip or prizes. Simultaneously, in partnership with Weber Shandwick, So Delicious launched a pre-festival influencer and social campaign, collaborating with creators to produce style-forward content teasing the “Pint of No Return” experience, while amplification continued across earned media and paid social through a partnership with Wavemaker Global.

At Lollapalooza, “The Pint of No Return” invited festivalgoers to “dairy free their minds” from the moment stepped foot onsite. Boasting a colossal 30x30x20ft footprint, guests entered through freezer doors into an immersive elevator experience, complete with scratch-and-sniff flavor scented walls and motion effects that replicated the feeling of descending into a new world of indulgence. Inside, black-and-white patterns, surreal ice cream imagery, and oversized decor created a photo-worthy environment, accented by the brand’s signature pastel palette.

At the heart of the activation, the Scoop Shop served five flavors, complemented by the nearby “Scoopiverse” photo booth featuring infinity mirrors for kaleidoscopic content creation, plus a walk-in freezer sensory experience and “Delicious Drip” merch truck offered custom giveaways from embroidered patches and enamel pins to flavored lip balms and premium Beats headphones. The Weber Shandwick and So Delicious teams were also on the ground, curating influencer gift bags, hosting an exclusive welcome dinner, and producing dynamic content for social, while Wavemaker Global and Burns Entertainment further extended visibility through earned media, paid social, and Lollapalooza sponsorship deliverables.

One of the most notable elements of “The Pint of No Return” experience was the structure itself. Designed to spark interest and mystery from afar, our 20-foot-tall oversized pint of So Delicious Dairy Free ice cream stood out among the trees, displaying a black façade with pastel lettering that served as both an architectural statement and irresistible invitation. Its sleek, minimalist design contrasted the festival’s colorful chaos, and with lines outside for hours, the exterior became one of the festival’s most photographed landmarks, blending scale, simplicity, and brand allure.

Inside, our interactive photo booth merged personalization, technology, and social shareability, bringing the “Dairy Free Your Mind™” message to life. More than just a photo opportunity, it became a journey of self-expression, inviting guests to explore what’s inside their minds before sharing it. Powered by industry partner The Bosco, the experience began as festivalgoers approached a digital kiosk that invited them to “Dairy Free Your Mind.” After registration, participants engaged in a three-question quiz that unlocked their So Delicious Flavor Personality—a valuable data capture opportunity. Each quiz connected mindsets to flavors, blending humor and curiosity to reinforce the brand’s positioning that indulgence and individuality go hand in hand.

Based on their responses, users were matched to one of five personas: Visionary Voyager, Enchanting Enigma, Smooth Minimal, Sublime Seeker, or Mind Bender. These archetypes captured the spirit of So Delicious and its festival audience, encouraging playful self-identification and conversation. Once revealed, guests stepped in front of a 95-inch LED backdrop to record a 15-second personalized video tailored to their results. Each personality triggered a custom animated visual environment, creating a motion-driven background reflecting their inner “flavor.” Within moments, participants received a text link to their content, optimized for instant sharing across social channels, extending So Delicious’ presence beyond the festival.

Over the course of the four-day festival, “The Pint of No Return” reached more than 460,000 fans and served up 13,800 scoops of So Delicious Dairy Free frozen dessert. Each sample became a moment of discovery that helped convert curiosity into enthusiasm and trial into affinity. Additionally, on-site, attendees captured over 600 custom videos through our interactive photo booth experience, fueling personalized content creation and social sharing that extended the “Dairy Free Your Mind™” message.

Most notably, post-event surveys revealed the activation’s impact: an impressive 65% of consumers were new to the brand, plus nine in ten samplers said they liked So Delicious better after tasting and expressed intent to purchase, validating the power of experiential marketing to shift perceptions and conversion.

8-212-1

With industry partner support, the brand’s impact extended through an integrated plan. A six-week sweepstakes campaign with Kroger and Southern Made generated over 6,500 entries, sparking curiosity and engagement with data capture, while nine paid influencers and organic creators delivered over 1.4 million impressions and 37,000+ engagements across social networks. Led by Weber Shandwick, Wavemaker Global, and Burns Entertainment, the campaign’s amplification strategy delivered 1 billion+ earned media impressions across 87 placements, exceeding targets by 126%, alongside 270 million+ paid social impressions and nearly 375,000 engagements.

Most importantly, the activation left an impression that connected flavor, fun, and self-expression. As festivalgoers put it: “One of the best activations at the event,” “Impressive creaminess without dairy,” and “Super creative experience and delicious ice cream.”

By turning skeptics into believers and new audiences into advocates, So Delicious proved that giving up dairy doesn’t mean giving up joy. The “Pint of No Return” experience not only redefined dairy-free indulgence—it redefined how a brand can use design, technology, and culture to build lasting brand love in an unforgettable scoop.
